Feel Better, Be Better Now…Why Wait?

There are certain times of year that make us get a little dreamy, perhaps a touch excited about things that may be… such as…towards years end we tend to think “thank goodness the year is almost up, now I can start over and finally do the things I really want to do. I’ll work out, I’ll read more, spend more time with my kids, eat better, loose that weight, learn a new language, earn more money, schedule that vacation, buy that house etc., etc. etc.”

 tips for achieving goals

Yes, we are talking about the imaginary and all but non-existent starting over point on New Years and those New Years resolutions. Did you know that…

45% of Americans usually set New Year’s Resolutions; 17% infrequently set resolutions; 38% absolutely never set resolutions.

Only 8% of people are always successful in achieving their resolutions. 19% achieve their resolutions every other year.  49% have infrequent success.  24% (one in four people) NEVER succeed and have failed on every resolution every year. That means that 3 out of 4 people almost never succeed.

What? Three out of Four people almost never succeed?!

Well then wouldn’t you think that people might eventually catch on to the fact that making an all or nothing proposition at the beginning of the year (likely with no research, tools, education or plan) is not working for the vast majority of those who indulge?

Here are a few great tidbits that may help ensure your success this go around…

The beginning of a new year is pretend in terms of…my slate is now clean and it will be so much easier to succeed.

You create a new slate every morning when you wake.

Small, measurable steps over time allow you to build on your success. This approach prepares you for the next logical step which is always…better and better things.

You owe it to yourself to set yourself up for success rather than failure. Do not try to do all things all at once. It may sound exhilarating, but the moment it starts to get hard or boring you are far more likely to bail.

Categorize your goals…family, health, relationships, financial, career, monetary…whatever works for you, then outline baby steps that you can take each day to get to where you want to be. Some may take a month, some a year, some longer. Still, if you are taking steps forward every day you will get there.

The bottom line is that there is no quick fix or magic time to live the live you envision for yourself. There are a multitude of products out there on the subjects of setting and achieving goals. I personally have devoured this type of stuff for years thinking that perhaps I was missing something. Maybe there was a piece of the puzzle I needed then everything would come together. In a word…no…there isn’t. It is just a matter of putting one foot in front of the other day after day with a clear vision of where you want to be while taking the steps necessary to get there. Happy New Day!

Every moment is a chance to turn it all around. Every day is a new opportunity to get to where you want to be.
